The Horton Project offers a variety of training session opportunities for aspiring athletes. Coach Horton works diligently to ensure every training session is run at a championship competitive level, maximizing every minute of the session. Before training even begins, Coach Horton works with his athletes to identify their needs and helps establish obtainable goals. At the conclusion of every training session, Coach Horton sends his athletes off with "homework" which must be completed to further develop their game. Whether you are looking for private training opportunities, small group work, team training, or camps & clinics, The Horton Project is the right choice to cater to your needs!
Before training begins, Coach Horton assess the player’s current basketball skill level by asking a series of questions. After which professional basketball player do you model your game? In what position do you see yourself excelling? Identify what you believe are your strengths and weaknesses? Through questioning and establishing a relationship with the athlete, Coach Horton is immediately begins to foster a training atmosphere in which the athlete begins to visualize future successes.
GOAL SETTING:
Goal setting is critical to development of an athlete. Both the trainer and individual being trained must buy into goal setting for meaningful sessions to take place. Daily, weekly and career goals are established to keep track of each player's progress.
CUSTOMIZED TRAINING:
Prior to actually bouncing the first basketball, a customized plan of player development is created for each player. Development sessions begin with basic fundamental drills and gradually progress to higher-level drills, based on player development. Basketball drills are presented and demonstrated in an understandable, useful way. Although players are pushed to compete at a championship level, Coach Horton understands players need practice at their own pace, encouraging mental and physical muscle development.
GAME SPEED:
By this point, the players have developed a sense of muscle development and muscle memory. Game speed is of constant focus in all drills and training sessions. After all, if players want to compete at the championship level, they must understand what type of environment it will be. Emphasis on proper form and balance, regardless of game speed is continual, so players understand the importance at the end of a game. Cones, chairs and other training equipment is used to simulate live defense. This helps our players get faster and to make smarter decisions on the court.
GAME SITUATIONS:
The goal of The Horton Project and Coach Horton is to put players into every possible game-like situation on the court. This is to develop player confidence, focus, and understanding of the right decision to make when under pressure.
